Biology students visit Wellcome Sanger Institute

Yesterday a group of our Year 1 A level Biology students had the excellent opportunity to visit the Wellcome Sanger Institute! Thank you to their team for hosting such an informative visit.

Our Biology students learnt about genomics, the important role of the Sanger Institute in mapping the complete human genome and the direction of current research.

Students then took part in a card game where they learnt about different protein families, followed by a presentation explaining how normal cells become cancerous and then compared different DNA sequences to identify DNA mutations.

After lunch, we met two researchers to discuss career paths and saw DNA sequencing machines that form an integral part of the research conducted at the Campus.
