History students turn the pages of a 400 year-old Bible!

A Level History students visited the church for a tour which tied in with their study of the 17th century.

We had the opportunity to study copies of documents from the time showing how the history of the church connects with the religious history we have studied in class. The highlight was being able to handle a 400 year old copy of the King James Bible. The church only realised they had a copy of this in 2011 when they found it in an old chest! It is rarely taken out of its glass case, but today our students were allowed to turn its pages and to feel the past beneath their fingertips. It’s not something everyone would find exciting, but for people who care about history this was a really special experience.
