In March 2025, English, Media and Film students went to New York. As part of the experience, students got to visit various places that have been the setting for many films, TV programmes and novels and the trip was a jammed-packed one from start to finish.
On Day 1 we took a breezy walk across Brooklyn Bridge taking in its architectural features and panoramic views of the city. From there we took a short walk to the World Trade Centre which set the sombre mood for reflection of the events of 9/11. After lunch we visited the Agelika Film Centre to watch the Italian film C'è Ancora Domani (There’s Still Tomorrow) which students described as one of the best films they had seen in years. Lively and bustling Times Square set the scene for the early evening where students watched street performers and took pictures of famous digital billboards and adverts. We ended Day 1 with a ferry trip to see the historic Statue of Liberty and New York nighttime skyline.
Day 2 was just as eventful and we kickstarted the day with the taking in some abstract art through the High Line and paid a visit to Chelsea Market in the infamous Meat Packing District of NYC. Whitney Museum and Little Island were our hosts for the early afternoon. We finished the evening at the Rockefeller Centre Top of the Rock observation deck taking in the iconic nighttime views of brightly lit New York City.
Day 3 started with a leisurely walk to the famous Grand Central Station taking in views of its impressive architecture followed by a walk through idyllic Central Park. After lunch we headed to the MOMI (Museum of Moving Image) and the Jim Henson exhibit and we wound down our last evening taking in an off Broadway show.
