The US and Russia are openly debating plans to resume explosive nuclear testing for the first time in 30 years. Until the mid 90s, nuclear tests were conducted globally with little to no concern for communities or servicemen. Most of these 2056 blasts unleashed energy thousands of times larger than the atomic bombs dropped on Japan, and released radioactivity that damaged people’s health and contaminated the environment, which scientists believe will lead to 2.4 million additional deaths globally.

Departing from conventional portrayals of nuclear devastation, Nucleus will combine three distinct stories of affected communities’ hope and resilience against unimaginable forces. In this unique creative documentary feature, the film will follow Diana (Kazahkstan), Alan (UK) and Hinamoeura (Tahiti), as they journey to the UN Headquarters to present their testimonies and demand a ban.

Nucleus is supported by Screen Scotland and directed by James Thomson of Edinburgh. The team urgently needs your support to remind the world of nuclear testing’s unending legacy. To learn more about the project and to support their crowdfunder, go to: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/nucleus
