Guided Busway - Important Update

Please see below a message from Steve Dann, Principal, regarding the Guided Busway works commencing 6 October 2025.

I have been in contact with Stagecoach management this week. You may have heard that the Guided Busway is having safety barriers constructed, and a speed restriction will be in place for the buses. Motorcycles will also be banned from the maintenance track and electric bikes that exceed 15mph will no longer be allowed. These restrictions are being implemented in partnership with the police.

Stagecoach say this will have a significant impact on how long it takes buses to travel from Huntingdon and St Ives to Cambridge.  It is impossible to say with certainty how long the delay will be, but their modelling suggests it may take up to an extra 45mins in each direction to get to Cambridge.

Stagecoach told me that they only had 4 days’ notice of this restriction, and they have added additional buses to the routes to try to mitigate the impact. They are frustrated with the situation. They ask for understanding, especially towards the drivers, and that complaints should be directed to Cambridgeshire County Council rather than the bus company, as their hands are tied.

Thank you to Stagecoach for their prompt and clear communication on this matter.
