Fresher's Fair 2025

Fresher’s Fair was organised to provide Long Road Sixth Form College students with a toolkit of services, support, and information that they could utilise during their time at Long Road. The event combined both internal and external providers, ensuring students had a diverse range of opportunities on offer. This included the Multi-Cultural Society, Barclays Bank Life skills, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

To encourage participation, students were given stamp cards. By engaging with five stands, collecting stamps, and returning the card, they could enter a prize draw to win a £10 voucher. The event generated high levels of student engagement, shown by the number of sign-ups and registered interest in the opportunities. Over 850 conversations were recorded, 125 students signed up for the Youth Loneliness Study organised by the NIHR, and 60 students signed up for volunteering and fundraising with the Papworth Trust.

Here is what our students had to say:

“It was very beneficial to raise awareness about the Christian Union. The stamps worked well as they got people engaged.”

“The event was open and packed and definitely connected a lot of people with similar interests!”

“I really enjoyed it. I spoke to many new people, both about our society and theirs. The layout of the event was very good too, it felt comfortable. It was very well-organised.”

The 2025 Fresher’s Fair was highly successful, creating strong student engagement and generating valuable partnerships with external organisations. Future improvements will look at improving the stamp card initiative as well as providing new and different organisations for students to build connections with. overall, the event was progressive, impactful, and emphasised Long Road’s commitment to enrichment and student development.
