Active Students is a programme funded by Sport England, which aims to re-engage 16-19 year olds in regular physical activity. All activities on offer are fun, inclusive and relaxed, where students can attend with their friends and make positive changes to their lifestyle.

For Active Student sessions we do not require students to wear a change of sports clothing; we just ask that sensible clothing and footwear is worn i.e. no sandals.
Free sports and activity equipment hire for all students. We offer a range of equipment for sports from basketball, tennis, table tennis, Frisbees, volleyball and rugby. Students enjoy this flexible approach to use the grounds and facilities of Long Road for their choice of leisure activities.
This activity has proven to be very popular with students due to its informal nature. With music on and racquets in hand, students love to relax and have fun by playing Badminton!
Female-only gym and fitness classes
Female-only dedicated time in the gym and at the same time a fitness class in the sports lab. A different choice of fitness class each week, such as Zumba, Boxercise or aerobics with our College personal trainer.
Active Student Volunteering Programme
This Programme is a great opportunity for students to be part of the Active Students Volunteering team and to enhance their leadership and communication skills. This Programme is awarded based upon the amount of hours a student is able to commit to and the nature of their volunteering contribution. Students are able to pick a flexible timetable of responsibilities including the promotion of sports and activities for students, leading a sports/activity session for students and Sports Centre reception duties. On completion of this programme, students receive a letter of recommendation from the College and Enrichment Credits for their hours of contribution.
