  • What do I need to make my application?
You will need to write a personal statement and provide us with contact details of a tutor or teacher who can send us a reference. It also helps to have your own personal email address to use for your application.

  • What happens next?
After you make your application you’ll be invited for an informal interview, this is a chance for us to get to know you! It’s your opportunity to tell us about any future plans you have, the reasons for choosing the subjects you’re applying for, any extra-curricular activities you’re interested in and if you have any additional academic needs. Parents/Guardians are also welcome to attend the interview with you. After your interview you’ll be made an offer within 4 working weeks, then all you need to do is focus on those all-important GCSE’s!

  • Can I come and visit the college?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer all our applications individual tours; however, after we make you an offer we will invite you to attend one of our Offer Holders Days in June.
This is a chance for you to try out the subjects you’ve applied to study, check out the extra-curricular activities we have on offer and get any questions you may have answered! A day in the life of a Long Road student, you’ll get a real feel for the college. We will also be holding 2 more Open Evenings in June – if you missed out on our October Open Evenings come along and chat to our staff and students.

  • Can I change my mind?
You can apply to as many Sixth Form Colleges as you like, you are also able to hold as many offers as you like!
Don’t feel pressured to accept the first offer you’re given; take your time to attend all the Offer Holder Days you can and experience what it would be like to be a student at each college you’ve applied for.
If you do decide that Long Road is the place for you, but you’ve changed your mind on what subjects you want to study – don’t panic! After you get your GCSE results you’ll be invited to enrolment; the first step of enrolment is having another informal interview to check you’ve got the grades you need and that you’re still happy with the subjects you’ve applied for. If you have changed your mind this is your opportunity to let us know, so we can do all we can to get you on the right course.

  • What if I don’t get the GCSE grades I need?
Sometimes things don’t work out quite as we hope, but again – don’t panic! If you’ve missed out on the grades you need, but you still want to study at Long Road, come along to enrolment with your GCSE results. The first step of enrolment is another informal interview, so our staff will sit down with you and discuss your options.
