Virtual Volunteering Club – Esther

Posted on

Esther is a Year 2 student who is studying Psychology Level 3 Extended Certificate, Criminology Level 3 Extended Certificate and Sociology A Level. Over lockdown, Esther has been volunteering with Age UK helping to combat loneliness in elderly people.

Tell us about your volunteering activities and why you decided to volunteer with Age UK…

I’m involved in the set up with Age UK where I phone call this lady called Josie, who is 86, and just have a general chat with her. I decided to get involved because even though it is such a small thing for me to do it means a lot to Josie and helps her to feel less lonely.

Why do you think other students should get involved in volunteering?

I think other students should get involved because there are many people out there who are lonely and feel quite isolated and just with your one phone call a week it can make a huge difference to them.
