Fourteen Long Road Sixth Form College Basketball Academy players and two staff members took part in an action-packed 5-day schedule of training sessions and fixtures in Barcelona during the last week of the Spring Term.
Staying in the suburb of Badelona, “The City of Basketball”, the Long Road team trained at Penya Joventud Basketball Arena and played against top opposition; Escuela Llor School, Penya Badalona and Martinenc CB.
One of the early highlights was a coaching session led by Carlos (Penya Badalona’s Assistant Head Coach), followed by a trip to the Camp Neu, home of Barcelona FC. There was just time for a quick walking tour of the Old Medieval City, then it was off to the first fixture vs Llor Escole Esporta.
After a slow start in the first quarter, the Long Road Academy adapted to the European style and fought back well throughout the rest of game. We lost 68-51, but won two of the quarters. The play was very tight, and both teams conducted themselves in a professional and competitive manner.
There will be a full report on the trip after the Easter break, and a video of the trip will be posted on this website in due course.
