Studying from Home – Steps to Success!

Posted on

Following the Prime Ministers announcement on Wednesday, today is our last day at college 😔

Although the college doors may be closed, we are still here busily working remotely to continue your education journey online. It’s a new style of working for us all, but our alumni Angela, who finished studying with us in 2019, got in touch to give us some tips for successfully studying at home.

Angela is currently a first-year student at the University of Lincoln studying a degree in Criminology. She recently found herself in the same position as all of us when Lincoln University told her that her course will now be taught 100% online. Here’s the advice she had to share with us…

“My advice to students doing the same is to make sure you have a study environment set. So rather than sitting on the couch and working, try to have a tidy desk in a quiet room – somewhere you can focus. And if necessary have snacks and music that’ll help you concentrate. For example, I like to listen to rap, but that doesn’t help me when I try to study. So I personally have Lo-Fi study music in the background which is quite calming.

I also try to write a setlist of tasks I need to complete and do a plan for each one, and then gradually work through them. That way the work I have tends to feel less overwhelming and it’s easy to see clearly what I need to do and how I can do it.  It’s also important to remember to give yourself breaks. Have some downtime to relax! ”

Thank you so much to Angela for sharing her tips with us – these will definitely prove useful over the coming weeks!

Remember, we’re all in this together. While it’s not the way we envisioned your education journey with us, we are still here to support you with every step. Student’s happiness, motivation and enthusiasm to learn is still our top priority so whatever you need please get in touch with your teachers and Progress Coach.

Our Long Road community hasn’t disappeared, we’ve simply moved online! Make sure you follow us on social media to keep updated and we’ll do our best to keep you smiling. Sending virtual hugs – see you again soon.
