What is a post-16 evening?
You’ve probably been to one yourself! A post-16 evening is an event held at secondary schools where Year 11 students and their families are invited to come and talk to local sixth form education providers to help them make choices about their post-16 options.
What is my role as a volunteer?
As a student volunteer you will join 2-3 members of staff in talking to Year 11 students and their families. These are informal events where your role is to share your experiences of Long Road with any interested students. You won’t be expected to do anything scary like a presentation, just chat to anyone who comes over to our Long Road stand! Members of staff will be with you all evening, so any questions you can’t answer simply direct them to us.
Most people want to know general information about college life so your experiences as a student are really valuable to them and can have a big impact when it comes to their decision on where to study after their GCSEs.
Why should I volunteer?
Volunteering is an excellent addition to your CV or personal statement and it also helps build skills and qualities such as confidence and communication that are highly valued by employers and universities. We’ll also give you a free Long Road t-shirt as a thank you for helping us!
How can I get involved?
Want to volunteer? That’s great! Take a look at the post-16 timetable below and email Abby firstname.lastname@example.org letting her know when you would like to volunteer.
As these are evening events you will need to make your own way too and from the school so make sure you have transport arranged!
