On Friday, Long Road staff and students brightened up a cold and frosty day by wearing rainbows in celebration of LGBT History Month!
Students and staff wore rainbow clothes and accessories to celebrate the first day of LGBT History Month 2019. Throughout the day the Long Road Pride Club had stands set up in the LRC and Student Centre where fellow staff and students were invited to sign the No Bystanders Pledge – “I will never be a bystander to hateful language and abuse. If I hear it, I will call it out and report it, and if I can, I will stop it. By adding my name, I promise to stand up for fairness, kindness and to never be a bystander” – you can sign the pledge here.
Students and staff also had the opportunity to buy rainbow laces for £1, with all money raised being donated to The Kite Trust.
Students also joined in online by uploading photos of their rainbow day outfits to social media and using the hashtag #longroadlife. Two £25 vouchers are up for grabs to those students with the best rainbow day outfits uploaded to social media!
The day was enjoyed by staff and students alike and certainly spread awareness of LGBT History Month!
We will be running events throughout February to celebrate LGBT History Month, with another rainbow day on Thursday 28 February!
