Physics students win Engineering Education Scheme!

Posted on

On Friday 26 April 5 of our A Level Physics students, Rachel, Eddie, Dale, Luke and Jamie, attended the Engineering Education Scheme Celebration Day at the University of Hertfordshire.

The team have been working on a project with the local company ARM which set them the challenge of changing the world using one of their microprocessors. The team designed and built a pair of glasses which detect sounds and words and display the directional information on LEDs.

This project was a serious commitment of around 70 hours of project time; the team formed in October 2018 and have worked on their project weekly since then up to the Celebration Day last week. They have each spent about 2 hours every week as a team and then a further 2 hours with the mentor engineer from ARM developing the project. They completed a detailed report on the whole process of the design and development of the glasses.

At the Celebration event, the team gave a 15-minute presentation to a panel of 5 professional engineers and answered questions from the panel and all other 15 teams of competitors; they also set up a display board for the project where they were interviewed by more assessor engineers.

We are proud to announce that our Long Road team won the People’s Choice award as a result of all the votes from everyone present on the day! Congratulations to Jamie, Luke, Dale, Eddie and Rachel on your win!
