Yesterday, a group of 13 Year 2 A level Physics students spent the day with staff from the High Energy Physics group at the Cavendish Laboratories, Cambridge University.
They took part in four practical/seminar sessions on the RICH experiment and Cherenkov radiation, Hunt the Higgs boson, measuring Particle tracks and how to detect particles. There were also three lectures from physicists who worked at both the Cambridge University and CERN on:
- “How to prove the existence of something you can’t see”
- Neutrinos in 7 questions
- The LHC: big experiments to answer big questions,
Long Road students enjoyed sharing their lunch in the canteen with particle physicists!
