Music students enthralled by Beethoven concert in Cambridge

Posted on

Music course team leader Lizi Rowlands reports:

“One of the A level Music set works is Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ symphony, so when the opportunity arose to hear one of the most sought-after pianists of our time, Murray Perahia KBE, playing the music of Beethoven with one of the world’s premier chamber orchestras, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, we could not miss it.  Ten students attended the concert at West Road Concert Hall, which opened with the Overture to “The Creatures of Prometheus”, setting the scene for the First and Second Piano Concertos.  All three of the works were played brilliantly, giving an insight into the ground-breaking style of Beethoven’s music.  The piano concertos showed both Perahia’s breath-taking virtuosity and Beethoven’s emotional extremes, and we all came away with a deeper understanding of the music and a thirst to learn more.”
