Last month Music A2 students travelled to London to hear the BBC Symphony Orchestra performing at the Barbican, conducted by Pascal Rophé. Music course team leader Lizi Rowlands reports:
“It was a particularly poignant evening, as the programme was French music, and the concert took place just a few days after the Paris attacks. The performance was beautiful. Highlights included the dramatic brass opening to “La Chasseur Maudit” by Franck, and the incredibly virtuosic “Concerto for Left Hand” by Ravel, performed by French pianist, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. The final piece in the programme was Berlioz’ “Symphonie Fantastique, one of the A level set works. The students said that the concert “brought the piece to life”, that “being so close to the orchestra was electrifying” and that they were “blown away by the talent”.
