Magnum Opus: Level 4 Art Foundation Graduate Show, Madingley Hall, 2022

Posted on

The following work displays the vast range of outcomes students have developed for their final show for the Foundation Course in Art and Design at Long Road Sixth Form College. We are so proud of them and are delighted to be working alongside one of the most iconic venues in Cambridge, Madingley Hall.

This one year Level 4 Qualification is an exciting fast-paced course, setup for creative students to develop a bespoke portfolio, as well as give them the opportunity to build an industry level skillset and develop high levels of professionalism. The course also offers national and international trips, such as a week in New York, and prestigious enrichment opportunities; this year students designed garments for a Buckingham Palace party – look out for these inside!

Alumni have won London-based internships as a result of opportunities afforded by the course and have progressed on to a range of exciting routes at leading universities, such as Central Saint Martins, The London College of Fashion, UAL, Nottingham Trent, Brighton and overseas. The course leads to a wide variety of prospective careers; curation, fine art, graphic design, photography, art therapy, illustration, arts journalism, textiles, fashion, special effects, animation, games design, architecture, product design and film to name a few.

The program builds on students’ prior experience and interests and is guided by dedicated tutors with in-depth industry experience, as well as with input from visiting external practitioners. Students develop new skills and ideas through challenging projects which increases their independence and readies them for their chosen progression routes. Creative thinking is fortified through critiques, tutorials and peer feedback. Throughout the course, students exhibit at a range of well-known public spaces in central Cambridge and London.

On completing this qualification, the majority of students will move on into higher education. Indeed, many universities require applicants to have completed a qualification, such as this, for entry into art and design based degree course.

“…The course has been exciting because it’s so fast paced; it has opened my eyes to a lot more creative options and pathways than I initially considered…”
