Looking to continue their unbeaten run, Long Road came up against one of their toughest opponents in the college league to date. The travelling side showed intent early on pressing high and going into tackles strongly. Long Road managed to maintain Walden however, and defended tight as a unit and playing some nice football in the first half.
Throughout the first half hour both teams created half chances, however, 15 minutes before the half ended Ben Tait went on a superb run from the right side of the half way line to the 18 yard box where he laid off Jasper Bridges on the edge of the box. Bridges was able to get the ball out of his feet and finish in the bottom right corner with skill. Putting Long 1-0. This is how it stayed until half time.
Going into the second half Long expected Walden to adopt an attacking style of play and aim to score an equaliser.
Keeping shape for the majority of the half well, Long were able to stop the Walden forward line from getting through on goal multiple times. With good communication and encouragement throughout the whole game, this definitely boosted Long Road to secure the 3 points.
However, in the closing minutes of the game Walden sent players forward making it difficult for the Long Road team to pick up players. With some hair raising moments in the final 5 minutes.
Fortunately, Long Road extended their winning run to 6 games. 1-0 to Long Road the final score.
