Long Road vs Hills Road: 3-0 WIN

Posted on

Match report by Izaak Darvill

As another Derby day arose for Long Road, they travelled to Hills Road on the back of some good results in recent weeks, looking to add to their unbeaten run in the college league and upturn in form in the University league, they took a strong 16 man squad across to their neighbours.

The majority of the match was a well-contested game with spells of good play from both sides. However, individual brilliance was to be the decisive factor in this game.
Long Road started the game brightly and chased what looked to be lost causes well, creating several chances through pressing the Hills back line, through forward pairing Tafari Passley and Sam Karr.

After comfortably dealing with any Hills advancements, once again pressure on the Hills back line saw Josh Lewis win the ball back in the penalty area. He then cut inside and finished superbly at the near post, the shot too powerful for the keeper even though he got a hand to it.

Long Road looked to continue how they started and kept a high tempo throughout the first half. Retaining the lead was made easier through a dominant back 4 who communicated well with a very vocal Dylan Pearce between the sticks when it mattered.

Towards the final 15 minutes of the half, Long Road gained some breathing space, after a clearance from their own half saw Sam Karr, once again chasing the ball down, win the battle with a Hills centre back and proceed to hit the back of the net with a composed lofted finished.

Going into the second half, a Hills piled on the pressure often at times playing 3 or 4 players up front. However, with gritty determination and strong defending from the midfield two and back line, Long were able to withstand any threat.

The game was there to be won by any team halfway through the second half, however, until a moment of excellence from Ben Tait to put Long Road 3-0 up. Winning the ball on the edge of the area, he was able to drift past 3 Hills defenders and slot the ball into the far right corner with ease.

Long Road still in contention for the league title kept their hopes alive with a strong performance.
