Matthew Barzun, US Ambassador to the UK, visited Long Road recently to talk to Politics and History students about their views of the United States. This was part of his programme of talks to schools and colleges in the UK, but he was so impressed by the standard of questions posed by our students that he invited us to a special event at his official residence, Winfield House this Easter.
Four students, Sarah Garrod, Isaac Seeley, Catriona Wilson and Oscar Brierley (who took these photographs), were selected to take part by Dave Evans, Politics course team leader at Long Road. Six schools from across the country were invited (a ‘wordie’ was produced for each showing the topics discussed at the school / college visits) and were asked for their advice on the content and format of future visits.
Sarah says: “ I enjoyed the trip because it was interesting to hear how not only the ambassador but members of congress and President Obama were interested in the views of UK students. Also, the ambassador had a great record collection!”
