The Long Road Lions (Basketball Academy) suffered a heart-breaking loss on Thursday evening as they fell to Haringey Sixth Form College 76-71.
The sides were evenly matched in the opening period as neither team managed to establish a lead. This changed in the second quarter as tenacious rebounding and a stagnant Long Road offence allowed Haringey to jump out to a double digit lead entering the end of the half. In the third quarter Long Road clawed themselves back into the game with good three-point shooting and strong defence. The teams were neck and neck throughout the fourth but Haringey managed a five point lead with under a minute to play and never looked back.
Long Road were led in scoring by J. Morris with 21pts and a strong all-round performance from B. Rayner. The Athletic Wing had 17rebs and 6 Asts.
Haringey were led by a double-double performance from T. Badmus with 24pts and 15 rebs, whilst A.Nyandebuu also added 16pts.
Long Road Coach Pete Charlwood said after the game: “This was a tough loss to take as the boys gave it everything this evening, and after getting our noses in front in the 4th, we looked in good position to go on and get the victory. However all credit to a Haringey team who finished strong down the stretch.”
Long Road travel to County Upper next Wednesday whilst Haringey Sixth Form host Uxbridge.
