The Inter Faith & Belief Week is designed to highlight the good work done by local faith, inter faith and faith-based groups and organisations. Each day during the week there will be stands in the College reception where students will be able to talk to members of different faiths to learn more about their beliefs. The intention is that the event will draw new people into inter faith learning and cooperation, enable greater interaction between people of different backgrounds, help develop integrated and neighbourly communities, celebrate diversity and commonality and open new possibilities for partnership.
Heidi Gjertsen, Equal Opportunities Co-ordinator, explains:
“Building good relationships and working partnerships between people of different faiths and beliefs is part of the year-round work of many people and organisations across the UK. We felt that having a special week at the College would provide a focal point, helping to open inter faith activity up to a wider audience so that more and more people are made aware of the importance of this vital work and are able to participate in it. As well as strengthening good inter faith relations at all levels and increasing awareness of the contribution made to both local communities and wider society, we are also aiming to increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs.”
