Match report by Izaak Darvill
Taking part in a regional indoor cricket tournament, Long Road played neighbours Hills Road where the winners would progress to nationals in Nottingham. Two teams going into the game with completely different views, Hills being far more serious than a Long Road team formed a couple of days before.
Batting first Long Road made a total of 25 for a fall of 4 wickets. With Oakley scoring good runs alongside Harry Harding.
Going out to bowl Long certainly took to the match with loud shouts of praise and encouragement towards their teammates, which seemed to unnerve the Hills team who feel for 26 runs before all overs were bowled.
In the second innings Long again batted resiliently adding a further 41 runs to their score, with Harry Fowler and Oakley scoring well. Meaning Hills had to score 36 runs to win.
Consistent bowling and high quality fielding saw Hills fall to 20 runs with only 1 wicket remaining going into the last over. Needing all 4 balls to result in 4 runs each time, Long Road bowled straight and fielded tightly. Leaving Hills to score 12 off the last over.
Winning by 4 runs Long Road progressed to nationals with high team spirit.
