Pete Charlwood, the Head Coach of the Long Road Basketball Academy, won’t be able to put his feet up over the summer holidays – he has been asked to be Head Coach of the English Basketball Association (EBBA) U17 Boys East England squad as they prepare for the national finals in September.
“I was really pleased to be given this post,” says Pete. “Last year I was the deputy coach, so it’s an honour to be asked to take over the top spot this year.”
Pete will work with 16-18 U17 basketball players from May to August, and at the end of August will pick the squad for the final, which will take place at the Nottingham Wild Cats arena in early September.
Meanwhile, the Long Road Basketball Academy goes from strength to strength. “We are two games away from the national finals of the EBBA National Schools U19 competition after beating St.Mary’s CE School in Cheshunt and are doing well in the British Colleges and Schools league.”
The Long Road Basketball Academy is preparing for a slightly longer journey. “We are off to Barcelona at the end of term where we’ll have three fixtures against local sides, four training sessions at the Badalona club and visit Camp Nou, the home ground of Barcelona’s biggest and most popular football team. We’ll also visit the Olympic Stadium and the Aquarium – and come back inspired and ready to work hard.”
