The Long Road Cambridge League team came through two tough games against the Perse and Hills Road to take the title for the second consecutive year.
The final game against Hills Road was a tight affair going right down to the wire but Long Road were able to hold their nerve with some clutch free throw shooting to take the win 46-42.
It has been a busy but successful term for the Long Road men’s squad, continuing their season and competing on three different fronts. In the British Colleges and Schools league the squad have now won four on the bounce with wins over CRC, Peterborough, South Essex and most recently this week, securing a big win over the league leaders COWA (College of West Anglia), beating them by three points after an exciting and thrilling encounter.
The squad has also progressed in the EBBA National Schools U19 Conference cup, winning their pool and then coming through a tough first knockout round against St Mary’s CoE school. They now face Warwickshire College in the next round, which will be played after the Easter break.
Coach Pete Charlwood said after last night’s match: “It’s been a tough term in terms of the hectic schedule, but the boys have dealt with it well. It has been an amazing week with the big win on Wednesday against COWA decided in the last minutes and then again tonight with the Cambs. league final also going right down to the wire.”
To finish the term off in style, the boys are now making final preparations for the Barcelona Tour next week.
