Yesterday, second-year students joined Principal Yolanda Botham, and Head of Progression, Andy Goodwin, in welcoming Councillor Simon Bywater and Janet Harris of the Local Authority.
Cllr Bywater was keen to hear about the experiences of students who had engaged in a range of Careers activities before presenting a National Award recognising Quality Standards in Careers to the college. He was very impressed and encouraged to hear how students had experienced trips to employers, Masterclasses to develop employability skills, support with UCAS applications for university, and how they had attended extra lectures from visiting speakers, insightful work experience and even won awards on internships between academic years.
Cllr Bywater encouraged the students to continue the good work and commented, “…these are exactly the opportunities we want young people to engage with locally. I’m impressed, and I’m sure it will improve your chances of success for the future.” Well done to all the students who were involved.
Thank you to students Amber Bates, Joe De Oliveira Lloyd, Mia Foreman Lock, Morgan Matthews, Shurlana Jones and Reeve Antony for attending the award presentation. We would also like to thank Cllr Bywater for supporting our involvement in the Raise the Rate campaign.
