Wellington Charewa, Matt Davis, Michael Pangratiou and Ruben Pylee all played a big role in the Cambridgeshire squad (pictured right).
Two of these players, Matt Davis and Wellington Charewa, were then selected for the East England Regional squad to attend training camps over the summer to have chance of being selected to represent the East Region at the National Tournaments.
The Inter County Tournaments are part of the England Basketball Performance Pathway, which gives opportunities for the East Region Coaches to assess the best players from all over the region with the purpose of selecting their East Region Squads that will compete at the National Tournaments held in August and September.
The Cambridgeshire U17 squad finished 4th on the day but produced some quality basketball in what was a tournament of extremely high standards.
Long Road’s Basketball Academy Head Coach Pete Charlwood, who was overseeing proceedings in his role as U17 East England Head Coach, said “I was really impressed with the standard of the tournament, which made the process of selecting the East Region Squad really difficult, but I was really excited and proud that two of the Long Road players made the initial East Region Squad. It’s a testament to the amount of hard work these players have put in this year and the quality of the basketball program that we provide at Long Road.”
