Long Road Sixth Form College support and academic staff went far and wide during the College’s training week – on work experience placements! The idea was for staff to make new contacts for the College for careers events and student work experience placements, and also to investigate potential apprenticeships and employment opportunities for our students. Companies were also asked to fill in a questionnaire to give our Careers Department a clear idea of the kind of skills and attributes needed in particular employment sectors.  Staff also enjoyed sharing ideas with counterparts in similar posts and produced information posters, which have been displayed around the College.

As a result of the day, staff from a number of organisations will be visiting us to meet students in the last few weeks of term. One of these is Lisa Byrne, Creative Learning Manager at the Junction. She will be coming in to talk to Performing Arts department students about one-year apprenticeships, work experience and the Junction Young Company.

Here are some of the companies and organisations which our staff visited:

  • Cambridge University Library – Long Road Learning Resource Centre staff
  • Cambridge Arts Theatre and The Junction – Drama teachers Sarah Stow and Jocasta Haynes
  • Little Designs – Graphic Design teacher Emma Melton
