Photography teacher Dan Boulton had an exciting summer holiday, spending time photographing Singer/Artist Lauren Auder for Behind The Blinds magazine.
Dan told us…
“Lauren identifies as Gender Fluid and I’m so happy to have been in a position to add to the work needed to address full gender equality within the media.
I shot Lauren wearing the label ‘Celine’, who have posted the image on their own social media today. Having an Instagram audience of 1.9 million! This has meant that the photograph has had an even further reach than just the magazines followers.
Although supposedly forward thinking, up until very recently, the major fashion industry brands would have been too nervous to share images that were so diverse. There is still a long way to go before we reach a fully diverse representation in the media, but things are rapidly changing and I feel positive.”
Dan shared this experience and his feelings towards the project with us, saying…
“I would like to acknowledge that the CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and my experience in the classroom has meant my own interest and awareness of Equality and Diversity issues has been continuously updated whilst working at Long Road. I look forward to being able to use the experience of this shoot within my teaching to continue to make gender issues visible in and out of college. I feel lucky to work in an environment where E&D is taken seriously and all our students are valued and supported.”
