ICT students visit Centre for Computing History

Posted on

Computer Museum 2A group of ICT Level 3 Diploma students visited the Centre for Computing History, in Cambridge. Teacher Richard Cowley reports:

“The museum, which was opened in 2013, has a collection of important computers and related artefacts to tell the story of the Information Age. It has a wide range of interactive exhibits charting the history of the home pc and games consoles. While we were there we also heard a short talk on the history of computing, starting with a military computer and ending with a mobile phone.”

“Several students enjoyed playing a game from my past, Asteroids, which was developed in 1979. Students also played with a “game cube”.  It was funny to hear eighteen-year olds saying: “I used to have one of these  when I was young.”: it just shows how fast the industry is moving.

“The students took lots of photos, which they can use in their coursework, and all agreed that it was a very worthwhile visit.”
