ICT students pitch ideas to industry experts

Posted on

Yesterday our ICT students spent the afternoon pitching their ideas for the development of a new product to industry experts. In attendance were Long Road Alumni Simon Plant, Senior Director of Production management at Bromium UK Ltd. and James Wright, VP of Engineering at Bromium UK Ltd. Josie Maisey, a former teacher of ICT and Computing at Long Road and now an ICT moderator for OCR, and Colin Maisey, ex Project manager for Digital Healthcare, also attended.

The event went well with 16 students being assessed by these industry experts about their ideas. Each student was given both written and oral feedback about both their ideas and their presentation skills which will help them to improve both in the future. During discussion afterwards, Simon said that he wishes he had had ‘something like this’ when he was a student at the College. Everyone agreed that this type of activity can help students develop vital communication skills. The lack of PowerPoint slides was welcomed.
