Four Long Road Students have embraced the growing 2012 Olympic spirit in Cambridge by applying for volunteer roles at the ‘Big Weekend’ Torch relay celebration in the city between Fridays 6th – Sunday 8th July. Lee Edwards, Lauren Harrison, Andrea Leaver and Harrison Horton have put themselves forward to fill a variety of roles from event stewarding to sport zone supervisors.
“With the Olympics just around the corner, it’s fantastic to see a selection of our students putting themselves forward and getting into the spirit of the games. These voluntary positions will also look great on the students CVs and stand them in good stead for the future,” Chris Bryden, Sport Development Manager explains.
Lauren Harrison and Andrea Leaver, two of the volunteers to take part say, “We feel really excited by the prospect of the Olympic torch coming to Cambridge and we just wanted to help out in anyway we could.”
The Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games takes place on Friday 27th July at the brand new Olympic stadium in London. If anyone is interested in volunteering at the ‘Big Weekend’, they are encouraged to contact Louise Walker, County Development Officer for Volunteering Cambridgeshire and Peterborough on firstname.lastname@example.org.
