Year 2 student, Megan Butt, is busy raising money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and would like your help!
We asked Megan about the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and why she is raising money for them…
“Phyllis Tuckwell is a Hospice located in Farnham, and is the only Hospice Care service in all of West Surrey for adults, and their families, who are living with terminal illnesses such as Cancer. They support over 250 patients each day and also care for the patients carers and relatives, providing not only physical support for the patient themselves but emotional support for the people who know the patient. Since this hopsices’ funds are covered by the NHS by only 20% they are heavily reliant on donations made to them by the local community.”
“I wanted to raise money, not only in honour of my Grandpops, but as a way of thanks for the hospice and their amazing service; they truly were the perfect example of how palliative care should be carried out. The staff that helped Grandpops were extremely kind, understanding and supportive for everyone who was affected and they made his passing easier for everyone to cope with. Seeing somebody go through the last stages of their life made me understand more about the realistic effects of death of a person. Simply seeing them happy for an hour or so truly makes the world of difference as this can distract them from the harshness of reality; they can forget about the treatment and procedures and feel as comfortable and happy as possible. I wanted to raise awareness of how urgent the hospices’ needs are, so that i could possibly help others who need palliative and hospice care in the future, and to that they can receive the best care possible, just like Grandpops.”
