Long Road Film and Media students met former student and award-winning film-maker Ryd Cook (front row, left in the photograph) when he visited the college. Ryd talked about his career and sharfed his experience and know-how with our budding film-makers.
Ryd makes naturalistic films inspired by life, people and experiences. His films have been screened in festivals around the world including San Francisco, New York, Paris, London, and Cambridge. He studied Film, Media and Photography at Long Road. His film “Esurio Admitto” won the Media Magazine Short Film competition. Since then he has won the Shane Meadows Forum Mini Films competition, Best Director (Short Film) at Bootleg Film Festival Toronto, 2012, and received numerous accolades.
His uplifting comedy drama “Aviatrix” premiered at the Cambridge Film Festival in 2015. It was also selected for the Southend Short Film Festival, received an Official Commendation from Strawberry Shorts Film Festival 2016, and was screened at the Cambridge Big Weekend on 10th July 2016.
Ryd wrote, directed, starred in and edited short “Single to London” in February 2016. The film premiered at TRIDENTFEST BRISTOL Cube Microplex Cinema to overwhelmingly positive reviews. In June 2016 the film was screened and won Best International Film at the Toronto Smartphone Film Festival.
