Congratulations to our GCSE and Level 2 Applied students, who have achieved excellent results.
Students re-sitting GCSE English and GCSE Maths have achieved far better results than the national average. The A*-C grades for students re-sitting GCSE English improved from 50% in 2014/15 to 73% this year, which is about twice the last available A*-C pass rate for re-sit GCSE English courses in sixth form colleges. The A*-C grades for GCSE Maths also increased from 52% in 2014/15 to 56% in 2015/16; again this is well above the average A*-C pass rate for GCSE Maths in sixth form colleges. We also have a group of students who aim to improve their C grade in Maths to B; last year, 58% were successful in doing so whereas this year 63% achieved a Grade B.
Students on our Level 2 Applied courses have also achieved excellent outcomes; there were 100% pass rates on the Media and Sport National Certificates with 83.4% and 50% starred Distinction / Distinction grades respectively, and a 100% pass rate on the Art Level 2 Diploma, with 92% of the students having a grade profile that includes distinction and merit grades. Students on the Health & Social Care Level 2 Diploma achieved a 90% pass rate with 66.5% starred Distinction / Distinction grades.
As a result of these excellent results, of the 194 Level 2 students who completed their studies with us in July, 142 (73%) will be able to progress to Level 3 courses with us, which is a very high proportion compared with other providers. Others are progressing to employment and other educational providers, so the overall positive destinations for this group of students is very high.
