Long Road Sixth Form College Vice Principal Steve Dann went to the House of Commons on 24th February for a reception: ‘Celebrating the Success of Sixth Form Colleges’ – but he wasn’t the only representative from the College…. Steve explains:
“The event was organised by the Sixth Form Colleges’ Association (SFCA) to promote the importance of sixth form education in colleges, and, in particular the ‘Drop the Learning Tax’ (VAT) campaign. There was a large number of sixth form colleges present and a few Members of Parliament, the press etc. gathered.
“There were some short speeches from Labour’s Tristram Hunt and Conservative’s Nick Gibb as well as the SFCA’s David Igoe. There was ONE student present – our own Callum Fairhurst, who also spoke to the meeting and was brilliant – he gave an impassioned speech about the value of the education he has received at Long Road Sixth Form College – I watched on proudly as people around me were heard to say, “How old is he?”. Clearly very well trained by his Politics teachers!”
