A level Drama students went to The Bedford Theatre for the second time in two weeks, this time to see Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. Course Team Leader Sarah Stow explains:
“The translation was similar to the set text that our Drama students are studying so it was a great opportunity for them to familiarise themselves with the plot and the characters. The students had lots to say about it afterwards as the play had used a fusion of styles – not just Naturalism as the students were expecting, but a mix of Melodrama and highly stylised moments. It has certainly given the students a lot to discuss and has made them think about their own vision for the play if they were to direct it themselves. The cast consisted of four actors so several roles were multi-rolled, which again added a different dimension to the play.
“The students’ task now is to write an essay evaluating the play – they have to analyse live theatre as part of their course.”
