With the season coming down to the final day of the season, Long Road needed a win to secure the title against rival challengers Comberton. Going into the game manager Sam Plant demanded fight, work rate, and passion on the pitch from everyone.
Taking each half as it came, Long took a while to get into top gear, but as soon as they reached it after a superb solo goal from Tafari Passley who expertly muscles his way past the defender and slotted home.
Once settled Long never looked like conceding and defended as a full unit of 11 men. Attacking with purpose, Long found corners were their best bet to score another. This came when Josh Lewis sent a ball into the box which was met by Harry Fowler with power nodding into the bottom corner. 2-0 up and they never looked back as confidence grew.
Taking this confidence into the second half they were able to add a further 3 to make it 5-0. The first came from a free-kick routine which left Comberton stood still and Fergus up from the back to react quickest and score a tap in to make it 3-0.
The 4th came through a brisk counter where the ball ended up at the feet of Josh Lewis, adamant about not using his left foot he spooned it with his right but managed to bundle the ball over the line. The 5th came as the last action of the game. Again being a threat from corners paid off, with sub Sam Karr crossing the ball in another sub George Gillies rose up above everyone else and headed the ball in.
Final Score: Long Road 5 – 0 Comberton
