“This has been a great opportunity for the students on our Sports Leaders Group,” comments Rob Day, Sports Development Manager.
Thirty Primary school children, recognised as gifted and talented at sport, were invited to take part in the Cambridgeshire Primary Multi Skills Festival at the Long Road Sports Hall.
“This is a high-level coaching session organised by the Cambridgeshire Schools Sports Partnership,” explains Rob. “There were two sports on offer: football, with a lead coach from the Football Association, and mini tennis, led by a coach from the Hills Road Tennis Centre. Once the lead coaches had started off the activities, our students took over to work with the children.”
Twelve Long Road students from the college Sports Leaders Group worked with the Primary school pupils. “It was the best school day ever!” said one of the children taking part.
“The event has been a huge success, and the Long Road Sports Leaders have made a massive impact on the pupils taking part,” adds Rob.
