Cakes and Cards for Human Rights Day

Posted on

The Long Road Sixth Form College Amnesty Group are giving away cake, and Christmas Cards on December 10 to mark International Human Rights Day.

The Cards display pictures taken at the Ugandan PRIDE parades since 2016. Students will be invited to sign them, and they will then be sent to the Ugandan President, via the Ugandan Embassy, to protest the Ugandan anti LGBT Act of 2014. The Act criminalises the following:

  • The act of homosexuality
  • Aggravated homosexuality
  • Aiding and abetting homosexuality.
  • Conspiracy to engage in homosexuality.
  • Same sex marriage.

Under Ugandan law gay men, lesbian women, and bisexuals, can be condemned to death because of their sexuality, or face life imprisonment. Transgender people also face widespread persecution.

The Amnesty Group will also be raising money for Amnesty.
