Business Studies A level students visited Turners Ltd in Newmarket in December. Turners is an independent, privately-owned supply chain company employing more than 2000 staff. They operate over 1000 vehicles and 1400 trailers from 32 locations. The head office site at Newmarket covers 40 acres which includes 500,000 sq ft of temperature-controlled storage.
“Seeing the amount of work that goes into everything was amazing: I picked up my grapes in Tesco Bar Hill this morning with new interest!” says student Aisling Burrows. “The visit was of great use to me. It was interesting and engaging throughout. I never realised how diverse Turners is.”
“For me, as someone who doesn’t want to go to university and would like to go straight into employment, the day was very well spent. It really opened my eyes as to what a wide selection of jobs there are which may not require a degree but still need intelligence and commitment,” adds Jack Burgess.
Business Studies Course Team Leader Alan Dixon says: “We would like to thank Fuel Management and Services & Business Development Manager Stephen Blackmore for making our students and our Careers Manager Andy Goodwin, so welcome, and opening our eyes to all the opportunities offered by a large distribution company.”
