Last week we held a very successful Progression Event, with high attendance throughout the day from both students, staff and local companies.
In total, we had 23 exhibitors for students and staff to speak to, from a wide range of specialisms including Science & Technology, Computer Software, Construction, Hospitality, Apprenticeship Specialists and Uniformed Services.
This was an excellent opportunity for students to secure voluntary work, part-time work, internships or apprenticeships for after they leave Long Road. The majority of students had taken time to research each company before attending the event and came armed with a variety of questions to ask the attendees and even their CVs to hand out to companies they felt they may be interested in working for.
Those students who have applied for university study also took the chance to network with these potential employers and gain an understanding of the industries they may work in after they finish their university study, or even organise work experience to coincide with their higher education.
Head of Progression Andy Goodwin told us that a number of students came and spoke to him after the event to share good news with him; such as Todd who has secured an interview with Axa Insurance, James who has secured an interview with Turners Sohom Ltd, and Milly who has secured an internship with Bidwells!
We also received great feedback from the organisations who attended who said the best thing for them about the event was…
“Most students were aware of what area of work they wanted to move into and asked questions relating to their future within our company”
“The number of students we saw was good. Most students were well prepared and had a good understanding of what they wanted to do”
“The students seemed genuinely enthused by the prospects in front of them. They asked sensible and well thought out questions”
In fact, 100% of organisations who filled out our feedback survey said that they were impressed by our students stating that they were asking relevant questions and seemed prepared for the future, and 100% were interested in returning for similar events in the future!
We would like to thank all the organisations who attended our Annual Progression Event and made the day such a success – we hope to see you again at our next progression event!
