Artistic Biology students attend AstraZeneca event

Posted on

Three Long Road students who study both Biology and Art A level (Jodie Gatelet, Chelsie Coates and Rachel Hogg) attended an event run by AstraZeneca.

The event started with an interactive talk about the use and development of drugs (which takes 12-14 years), clinical trials, and the way that modern technology is reducing the need for animal experimentation. Students also heard about how antibodies, which can have toxic chemicals attached to them, are often used to target specific cells for example cancer cells).

This was followed by an art session. The idea was to produce images (dinner-plate sized, based on themes in molecular Biology) that will be scanned in and used to decorate the boards around the new AstraZeneca site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus next to the College. The images will also feature in a display in Cambridge.
