Our Art & Design Level 3 Extended Diploma (= 3 A levels) students can always be relied upon to produce outstanding work, and their response to their latest brief, Always Judge a Book by its Cover, was no exception.
Students studied the history of book cover illustration, then were set the task of designing dust covers for two books from a selection of titles:
- Animal Farm- George Orwell
- 1984 – George Orwell
- Jane Eyre- Charlotte Bronte
- Moby Dick- Herman Melville
- Oliver- Charles Dickens
- The Book Thief- Markus Zusak
They had to carry out research into the works, visit museums, galleries and local sites for inspiration and historic context, explore different production methods and media, design and produce their covers and finally present their work to Learning Resource Centre (LRC) staff, alongside annotations and sketches of work in progress.
The students’ work is currently on display in the LRC and is of such a high standard that the books are virtually indistinguishable from published works.
