Art A level and Art National Diploma students visited London recently to gain further insights into the topics on their courses. The first stop was the Courtauld Institute where the students listened to a very comprehensive talk on Fauvism and Kandinsky. “I found it very interesting and informative, and very relevant to the Art History unit,” comments student Zoe Nunn. Lottie Peterson adds: “I was particularly fascinated by the Fauvism paintings, which used a range of really vibrant, exciting and bold tones of colour.”

A relaxing lunch in Covent Garden, watching the street artists, was followed by two hours at the National Portrait Gallery where the students drew and enjoyed the variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional work on display. “I found the sketches of faces, the Neil Kinnock painting and the faces of Blur the most interesting,” says Jerome Harrad. Ben Springham comments: “I particularly enjoyed sitting in the Portrait Gallery and transcribing the paintings.
