On Monday 3rd December, the Applied science 1 year students visited Mundipharma International at the Cambridge Science Park. Mundipharma make and test slow-release painkillers.
The students visited both the quality control labs and the manufacturing facility as part of their work on studying scientific workplaces. In the labs, students were impressed to see the range of equipment from automatic dissolving machines to HPLC, as well as more traditional glass flasks and balances which they are used to. In the manufacturing facility, everyone enjoyed wearing the red hairnets and seeing how the pills are made.
The best part was, by common consent, the pill packing area where we saw thousands of medicines being put into packets by robotic arms!
Thanks so much to Lisa Taylor at Mundipharma for showing us around.
