Congratulations to A Level Photography students, Laura Lakinger and Lucy Crawford who won 2nd and 3rd prize in a national schools’ photography competition organised by the National Portrait Gallery and judged by the famous photographer Martin Parr. Their photographs were selected from 2000 high calibre entries.
On the 16th May, Laura, Lucy, their teachers and a group of Photography students from Long Road, were invited to an award ceremony and to see the winning photographs, framed and exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery. Some of the greats of Photography; David Bailey, William Eggleston and Irving Penn, have had their work exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, Laura and Lucy are in good company and have something to make their personal statements stand out.
As a part of the celebrations, we visited Martin Parr’s amazing exhibition ‘Only Human’ in the main gallery. We were all delighted to meet Martin and to hear his insights into the reasons for taking his photographs.
At the award ceremony, Martin Parr also gave a prize to the teachers for their inspirational work. The prize was a photography workshop at the National Portrait gallery and we are looking forward to bringing 20 students to participate in this in September.
