Sport Level 3 Diploma

Level 3 Applied Diploma

Spend your time in our brand new fitness suite, sport science lab, purpose-built sports centre, dedicated sports classrooms or outside on our extensive playing fields and state-of-the-art all-weather pitch.

On our Level 3 Sport Diploma you will study a broad range of units, increasing your knowledge, understanding and skills in several sports-related fields such as nutrition, coaching, anatomy and physiology, sports psychology and performance analysis. Taught by a highly successful team of extremely experienced specialist teaching staff you will develop skills required by sports-based employers.

You can choose to take the Diploma as an Extended Certificate, a Diploma, or an Extended Diploma, equivalent to one, two or three A levels respectively.

Course Content

The Level 3 Diploma in Sport at Long Road is a highly successful course delivered by an extremely experienced team of qualified, specialist teaching staff. The course has an excellent record of helping students to achieve their sports-related career goals via sports-related apprenticeships, employment and university courses.

As this is a vocational course, the emphasis is on the application of theory to practice. In each of the units, you will produce a portfolio of evidence that shows you have met the assessment objectives.

You will gain specialist knowledge, understanding and skills through a wide variety of activities including practical performance, coaching and analysis. This course offers you a broad range of units which will increase your knowledge, understanding and skills in several sports-related fields such as coaching, anatomy and physiology, sports psychology and performance analysis. All students will complete a work placement of their choice in the sports industry in the second year.

You will play an active role in your learning, developing a range of vocational and sports-based skills valued by employers and universities.

Whether you are looking to follow a higher education pathway taking a sports-related degree at university, or go straight into employment, whether as a fitness professional, coach, teacher or manager, we have a fantastic track record in helping you to achieve your career goals.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a combination of internally assessed assignments and externally-set and marked assessments.

Special Features

You will get the opportunity to take a number of additional courses while on this programme including Dodgeball Level 2, First Aid at Work, Level 2 Gym Instructors, and National Pool Lifeguarding (NPLQ)

There are visits to universities to find out more about sport-related degrees as well as visits from guest speakers to discuss progression routes such as university and careers in the fitness and coaching industries.

There is a wide number of sports teams at Long Road, playing for which can develop your enrichment portfolio: football, rugby, netball, hockey and cricket. If you are a keen and able basketball player, find out about the Long Road Basketball Academy.

All students will be given the option to complete a placement of their choice in the sports industry.

  • are able to write confidently, use a range of ICT skills and prefer coursework to exams.

 

Entry Requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 including English.

A grade 4 at GCSE in PE or a Merit at Level 2 Applied Sport is required if it has been taken.
