Level 2 Applied Courses
Learn how to deliver person-centred care and support to meet the needs of a variety of service-users on our Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma. On this one year course you will achieve the equivalent of 4 GCSEs and develop the underpinning knowledge as well as practice and personal skills required to work in the health and social care industry.
You will gain an understanding of the Health, Social Care and Early Years sectors exploring key themes, policies and skills that are important to this area; meaning you are well prepared to work in a Health and Social Care setting or with young children.
Working as part of a cohesive group, receiving tutorial support and study skills assistance from our specialist staff, you will build the foundations to enable you to be successful on a Level 3 study programme.
This 1 year course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs and will help you to understand the Health, Social Care and Early Years sectors. This course helps you to develop the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required to work in a Health and Social Care setting or with young children.
You will study how to communicate well with different groups of service users; considering the barriers to good communication and how these might be overcome.
You will study the physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs of the main client groups at different stages in their lives and what influences those developments.
You will investigate the dietary needs of people at different stages of life and what changes need to be to ensure healthy diets at different life stages.
You will study the structure of the human body and practical activities will show you how to monitor different body processes.
You will investigate how creative and therapeutic activities are used in health and care settings.

You will be responsible for finding your own 2-week work placement in a Health, Social Care or Early Years setting, supported by the Long Road Careers and Progression Department.
- At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 including GCSE English and GCSE Maths.
- Students who have not achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English and/or GCSE Maths must retake these as part of their study programme.

After Long Road
With a Merit grade you could progress to other qualifications such as the Health & Social Care Level 3 Diploma, which is available at Long Road Sixth Form College.
Alternatively, you could work towards an Advanced Apprenticeship, an appropriate NVQ or a Level 3 childcare qualification.
